Christmas is Coming

How does it come around so quickly !

It only seem like 5 minutes since I was rushing around choosing and buying gifts. Thank goodness for Amazon and the Post Office, because there is no way that I could get the diverse types of gifts that my family ask for in Devon alone.

Where do you do your Christmas shopping? I might have to try New York one year, have you tried it?

So far this week I have been trying to finish off some things that I have in my UFO pile.

The first to be completed is a Patchwork Origami Wreath. This is based on the Christmas tree decorations that you have probably seen. It should be quite easy to make , however once all the little shapes were completed no amount of shuffling and re-arranging would give me the shape I was after. A phone call was needed followed be a lovely lady in Cornwall who posted me her instructions. I can never get over how generous fellow stitching folk are.

Here is the finished wreath , with sparkly beads – because I had to!

I have also finished all the stitching and appliqué on my Lynette Anderson Favourite Garden quilt. I just need to get the buttons on and stitch it together. this has got to be finished for Christmas.

I have also all but finished my shadow appliqué needle case that I began a couple of weeks ago. I just need some coloured felt for the inside leaves of the holder.

Next week I have two further wreaths to finish, a bag to make for my sister and another for my grand daughter.

When and where shall we meet

As this is a new group I need input help and ideas.

I had thought we could meet up either at each others houses or a central location to start with. Let me know your thoughts on this.

W also need to know when is best for you all to meet day, evening, weekend or a mixture of all three.

We can have a great time with fabric and threads, biscuits, cake , tea or even wine.

I am really excited about this group, I love all the modern quilts and ideas – please look at the modern quilt guild for inspiration. Also to drool over and wonder where they get all there ideas from.

I have just bought these two books that are full of great ideas and inspiration . The first one has basic instructions for quilting in the introduction, including tools quilting basics and colour and design. The rest of the book has some lovely patterns for quilts of all sizes, cushions and table cloths. All the colours of the quilts are simply stunning.

You can get this from here Amazon

The other book is for the free motion quilters, it is full of very clear and simple pictures and drawings. I am attempting to try out several of the ideas on a quilt I am making for my nearly one year old grandson. If you haven’t seen any of Angela’s work I recommend you look her up – ” fabulous”

You can also get this one from Amazon too

Must go now and at least attempt to tidy my sewing table for tomorrow!

We are live

This is officially the first post for the The Devon Modern Quilt guild. My aim is to get a local group together who wish to quilt in a fun and modern way, to meet up on a regular basis to sew and chat – possibly eat and drink too!!!

The group is based in Bideford Devon, please contact me if you wish to come along. the days and times for meetings have not been set yet.
